I know managment is smart and proven, but I've never seen anyone survive a sustained economic downturn in this business. I never
bought the stock until now because I felt there wasn't a sufficient margin of safety. But if JJR, Histream, Horn, Sysop and others like
it, how can you stay on the sidelines?

This MHC has never made even average earnings. It's possible to grow the size of a bank and earnings at the same time. BCSB has not figured out how this is done. It's ok to hold some shares if you are buying a "basket" of MHC's, but I'd commit my major dollars to the better performers.

Buybacks, waived dividends including special dividends, dutch auction, low expense ratio, high ROA, low NPA, dominates their local market in traditional mortgage and deposit products. They should write the textbook for mutuals on how to manage their MHC post conversion.

Hard to understand this stock. If they do such a good job underwriting, why are their non-performing assets so high? And why don't they have more reserves set aside to back them up?
What will happen to them in a sustainted recession with a falling
real estate market? My fear is that there is a lot more risk in their loan portfolio than is generally understood.

This bank came public so ugly, that I can't help but think that managment didn't clean it up first so that they could buy in cheap themselves. Look for the results to improve after the option prices are set and for them to sell out at a big gain after a few years.
See close neighbors SFBI and Michigan City for other examples of this "bad is good" strategy.

I'm with Joac on this one. MO is an evil company. I know, CK that this country was founded on tabacco, but its been causing human death and suffering for centuries. Invest your money where it will do some good for humanity. Would George Bailey invest in big tabacco when he could be providing housing for the Martino family? If you own this, enjoy the high dividend cause in the end any remaining value will end up in the hands of the trial attorneys and governments.

Hold your nose and buy some shares of this downstate Illinois micro-pig if you can find any. The stock is in strong hands. New managment has cleaned house and will be held accountable by OTS memorandum of understanding. It ain't very pretty, but hold on for the ride, it should be very profitable!
