Ever head Hans Ganz in action? He's impressive. High-powered management + inherent desirability as acquisition candidate (location, location, location) has always been the formula for making big $ in the conversion aftermarket. (disclosure: I own it)

This little piggy got left behind. It may have blemishes, but they won't matter when the bank sells out.

This country was also founded on slavery. That's hardly an argument for it.

This may be your last chance. Actually, you're probably too late already. We're coming on 3 years and the stock has just broken out to 24.87.The CFO has shown himself to be a brilliant player of the thrift game, from the inside. He brought 2 mutual thrifts public before this, and the last one he sold out to Fifth third at 4x book value. CFO and CEO own boatloads. Tommy Noe rocks!

Simple story: supply and demand. There just aren't that many big conversions left...they're few and far between...limited supply of these, and there's no reason why other NJ/NY area conversions' success wouldn't be repeated here.

Geriatric board...the "second step" conversion is the next step on the way to the sellout. Plus good yield (3.5%) matters (and will matter more if Bush gets his way). Management bought decent size in the second step [compare that with other second steps at the same time] and appears to have kept the offering limited (not going for supermax). Prices on comparable thrifts moved up while we waited for this one. Disclosure: I bought some.
